CLUBHOUSE
The Hawthorn Room and PlaySchool were significantly damaged during the ice and windstorm of early 2024. Here are the updates on their current state:

  • The needed heating coil was installed on 3/13 and the HVAC system is back to full operation.
  • The majority of the demo has been completed in both the Playschool as well as the Hawthorn room.
  • Our restoration company has been working diligently to get the permit approved through the city of Lake Oswego in effort to move into the rebuilding phase.
  • The Facilities Department is looking into adding a generator to operate the main building systems during future weather events.

COMMON PROPERTY
The ice and windstorm in January caused significant damage to trees and assets throughout MPHOA Common Property.  Over one hundred trees on common property were broken, lost large branches, or fell.  Identification of damage, removal of hazards, and cleanup became the primary focus of Landscape Stewardship Department (LSD) in the days and weeks immediately following the storm.

LSD canvassed all 185 acres of MPHOA common property to identify damaged trees and MPHOA assets. Many MPHOA residents who observed damage submitted Common Property Work Requests (CPWRs).  Additionally outside contractors and arborists were also utilized. All of these efforts aided in establishing a comprehensive workflow for prioritizing and responding to storm damage.

Throughout January and February, LSD responded to each of these areas, removing downed trees, clearing paths, and repairing broken trails and structures.  Chipped trees created a large biomass of wood chips which has been used to mulch landscape beds throughout MPHOA common property.  Larger logs were transported to the LSD HQ at 25 Abelard and are available to residents as firewood rounds.  For more information about firewood rounds, follow this link.

Monitoring, testing and pruning/removal of potential hazard trees by a storm damage specialist is ongoing. By early March, in-house cleanup efforts were finalized, and LSD was able to return to seasonal maintenance in time for spring.
